When I’m craving a weekend getaway from Tucson, Tempe is usually at the top of my list. Why? The rooftop pools.
Tempe is home to several hotels with rooftop pools, each offering a different vibe — whether you’re in the mood for relaxation, fun, or something in between. The hotels I’ve selected for this roundup are not only beautifully designed, but also conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants, attractions, and nightlife.
I carefully curated this list based on four key elements: the pool itself, downtown views, cabana access, and food & beverage offerings. And to further help you narrow down your favorites, I broke everything down into five categories so you can prioritize what matters most to you.
Whether you’re planning a romantic staycation, a family vacation, or a girls weekend, these are the best rooftop pools in Tempe you need to experience.

Best Luxury Rooftop Pool in Tempe
Salt + Gila at Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU
Omni properties are known for their quiet luxury aesthetic. Everything is intentional, elevated, and never over-the-top—and the new Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU is no exception.
On my most recent stay in Tempe, I fell in love with the hotel, the spacious rooms and both rooftop spaces. Yes, there are two.
The third-floor rooftop and pool deck at Salt + Gila offers a serene, Southwest-modern aesthetic. It’s the most beautiful rooftop I’ve experienced in Tempe. The pool is spacious enough for families, but still feels like a sophisticated escape with plenty of lounge chairs, rentable daybeds, and full-size cabana suites. Sip seasonal cocktails or enjoy small bites from the approachable, chef-driven menu. I recommend the Blackberry Mojito (which can also be made as a mocktail, the Black Spritz) or the Creamsicle Tides with Grey Goose, French vanilla, lemon, orange, and Owen’s club soda.
With expansive floor-to-ceiling windows and a covered patio, Lucero at Omni Tempe Hotel offers unmatched sunset views of downtown Tempe. I loved watching the planes glide in toward Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport as the sun dipped below the horizon. Whether you’re visiting for date night or catching up with friends, I highly recommend dressing up for this rooftop. I’ve only been there once, but it’s become my favorite rooftop bar in Tempe. Both the crafted cocktails and mocktails were superb too. Reservations are strongly encouraged.

Best Family-Friendly Rooftop Pool in Tempe
Tempe Mission Palms
Tempe Mission Palms was the first Tempe hotel I stayed at in college, and was one of the first hotels with a rooftop pool to join Downtown Tempe! In college, I selected this hotel for my birthday getaway from Tucson because of its large pool and deck and whimsical courtyard. On a recent visit, I was delighted to see the same charm — now with the addition of their colorful onsite cocktails!
You can cool off in the expansive pool, soak up the sun in a lounge chair, or even enjoy extra space with the first-come, first-served cabanas. From their seasonal Cabana Bar & Grill, enjoy a pool-side cocktail or bite, like the crispy shrimp tacos or an Oaxaca quesadilla! The excellent hospitality makes you feel welcomed.
The rooftop views feature palm trees, “A” Mountain, and the historic Hayden Flour Mill. I believe this is also the largest rooftop pool in this blog post.

Best Rooftop Pool in Tempe for Cocktails & Friends
Alibi at Canopy by Hilton Tempe Downtown
Take the elevator to the 14th floor and step into Alibi, a lively rooftop pool and lounge with 180-degree views of Downtown Tempe, the Superstition Mountains and South Mountain. If you’re seeking energy and entertainment, this is the place. From DJs spinning weekend sets to rooftop events, Alibi knows how to throw a good time.
With an extensive list of craft cocktails and a foodie-forward menu, you’re bound to have a good time with friends. I’d recommend sharing the Gochujang Kimchi Wontons, and sipping on the Mandatory OT, a cocktail consisting of Naran Mezcal, prickly pear and fresh lime.
When you’re ready to relax, make yourself comfortable in one of the lounge chairs with adjustable umbrellas, or elevate your experience with a shaded, full-service cabana.
The hotel is a favorite for groups, couples and anyone wanting a fun rooftop atmosphere. And if you’re in the mood for something more laid-back, Tempe Town Lake and the ASU Art Museum are just a short walk away.
I’ve stayed here with my husband. I’ve stayed here with friends. Either way, it’s always a good time! There’s something about Canopy that feels stylish and effortlessly fun.

Best Quiet Rooftop Pool in Tempe
AC Hotel by Marriott Phoenix Tempe/Downtown
When you’re craving something a bit more low-key, consider a stay at AC Hotel by Marriott Phoenix Tempe/Downtown. Located next to Tempe Town Lake, this rooftop pool doesn’t have a downtown view, but it does overlook “A” Mountain, giving you a peaceful desert oasis in the heart of the city.
The hotel reserves the pool exclusively for guests, keeping the atmosphere quiet and relaxed. With no rooftop bar or restaurant, it’s ideal for those seeking a more tranquil experience. Thanks to its minimalist design and central location, this hotel is especially popular with business travelers.
I also stayed here during my 70.3 Ironman Arizona race and loved being just steps away from Ironman Village and the start line.

Highest Rooftop Pool in Tempe with Sunset Views
Skysill Rooftop Lounge at The Westin Tempe
For the best sunset views of downtown Tempe, head to Skysill Rooftop Lounge at The Westin Tempe. Perched on the 18th floor, this is the highest rooftop pool and rooftop bar in the greater Phoenix area.
From the moment you step out onto the deck, you’re greeted with unobstructed, panoramic views that stretch across the Valley. Lounge chairs and covered cabanas are available, making it a great spot to unwind whether you’re swimming or simply enjoying the skyline.
No matter when you visit, this rooftop lounge and pool deck is home to an exciting roster of events. Don’t miss Sunset Spins, which takes place every Saturday throughout the summer season.
Even if you don’t swim, visit at golden hour for cocktails and bites while taking in Tempe’s desert sunset.
